About
Railway station Belgrade is the main Belgrade railway station for international traffic. The building was built between 1882 and 1885 according to the plans of the architect Dragutin Milutinovic, and has the status of a cultural monument of great importance. By December 10, 2017, it served as the main station for Belgrade, when all departures (except for two for Novi Sad) were relocated to the new Belgrade-Center station.
At the time of construction, the building was one of the most monumental buildings and symbols of the royal capital. It is one of the first railway stations in Serbia, whose project included a specific architectural program and content adapted to European technical achievements. It was designed in the spirit of academism as a representative building, a diluted base. The architectural composition is dominated by the central classical rhythm of the main entrance, superimposed by the triangular tympanum. With its specifics it is a testament to the technical and architectural development of Serbia in the last decades of the 19th century.
The facility is accessible for people with disabilities and people with special needs. Blind persons and wheelchair users are advised to come with escort.
