About

The stadium Rajko Mitic (formerly the Red Star Stadium, popularly known as Marakana) is a football and athletic stadium in Belgrade where FC Red Star plays. The official Serbian national football team also plays on it. The stadium is located in the settlement Dedinje in the municipality of Savski venac. The stadium has 55 568 spectators. The stadium is named after the "Star of the Stars" by Rajko Mitic.

Marakana was built between 1960 and 1963. She replaced the old stadium of SK Yugoslavia, which was built in 1927, and on which Zvezda played the last match against Novi Sad. The first game on Marakana was played on September 1, 1963 against Rijeka (2-1). Then, on still unfinished tribunes, through fifteen qualified entrances of five meters wide, 55,000 spectators passed through, to record the record in that autumn in the derby with Partizan - 74,000 spectators. The next year, as the stadium was fully completed, the capacity was officially 95,000.

FC Red Star is a Serbian football club from Belgrade and part of SD Crvena zvezda. It was formed on the foundations of the pre-war club Yugoslavia. The Red Star is the most profitable football club in Serbia, winning a total of 55 titles, including 27 domestic championships, 24 national cups, two Mitropa Cups, one Cup championship and one Intercontinental Cup. The greatest success was achieved in 1991 when he won the European Champions Cup in Bari and the Intercontinental Cup in Tokyo the same year. It was the greatest achievement of the Red Star and any Serbian, and then Yugoslav soccer club.
