About
Monument of Gratitude to France is a sculpture created by sculptor Ivan Mestrovic. It is located in the center of Belgrade, in Kalemegdan Park, and was set up on November 11, 1930, in a sign of friendship, mutual assistance and cooperation between Serbia and France during the First World War. The bronze monument shows a sculpture of a woman holding a sword, which symbolizes France fighting for Serbia. On the east side of the monument is a relief of a woman who sits as an embodiment of the Sorbonne - youth educational assistance during and after the war. The monument is funded by voluntary contributions from the Society of Friends of France and the Society of Former Students of French Schools.
The object is accessible to people with disabilities and people with special needs.
