About
The activities of the Museum of modern art began in 1958. The founder and first director of the Moderna galerija, which started working in 1959, later the Museum of modern art, was Miodrag B. Protić, a painter, theoretician and art critic. In the same year, the Executive Council of the Republic of Serbia decided to build a building for the needs of the Modern Gallery that would satisfy modern museological principles and determine the location in New Belgrade, at the confluence of the Sava, opposite the Belgrade Fortress. The building of the Museum of modern art was built from 1960 to 1965.
The original architectural design of the building resembles a crystal shape. The permanent exhibition presents a rich selection of Yugoslav painting, sculpture and 20th century graphics.
The museum was completely renovated and put into operation in 2017. The facility is almost completely adapted for people with disabilities and people with special needs.
