About
The tower is located 16 kilometers south of Belgrade and dominates the town with its height of 204.68 meters. It was built at the lower summit of Avala in 1965.
The original tower was created according to the project of architects Uglješa Bogdanović and Slobodan Janjić (finished in 1965), and it was the tallest building in former Yugoslavia and the Balkans. Unfortunatly, the tower was destroyed on 23 April 1999, during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. The reconstruction started on 21 of December 2006 and the Avali tower opened again on April 21, 2010 for visitors and tourists.
Now, it offers a wonderful view on whole Sumadija, and tourists have at their disposal a viewpoint (at 122 meters) and a coffee bar (at 119 meters). The statistic shows an increasing number of tower visitors, which is one of the top 5 tourist atractions in Belgrade.
The facility is completly accessible to people with disabilities and people with special needs.
